sounds in games

A.      Sound designer/engineers communicate what the producer or director wants the audience to feel or experience by adding certain sounds to portray a certain mood like thunder and lightning for fear and ocean sounds and wind sounds for relaxation or the instrument triangle to portray that a character has had an idea there can even be intense music to build suspension.

Sonic hedgehog
The sonic hedgehog game music is so unique that it is used throughout the game. When playing this game and you hear the music sound it demonstrates an adventuress mood that you feel more curious to carry on with the game. Also when hearing the sound you become more alive as the music sound uses different tones to try and engaged you with the game.
The sonic hedgehog music is so enjoyable it gives a fast and addictive vibe.
I think from my opinion the game maker was very successful in using the music sound in order to make the game enjoyable and more fun in addition to this when am engaging with the game I don’t feel any type of boredness.

Mass effect 3 leaving earth
Leaving earth music sound is so iconic when playing the game you feel some type of emotions towards the game. The music sound itself envy’s as if something has come to an end making you sympathy with the game. The makers of this game were very successful in controlling the way you look at the game in the sense of having emotions. It’s really heart-warming to look at this game and think it can change your mood.

GRAND THEFT AUTO (GTAIV)
GRAND THEFT AUTO or GTA music is so different to other previous versions. When playing this game you feel some type of way towards the game which is good emotions.
In my opinion I would properly say that GRAND THEFT AUTO music sound is quite energetic and demonstrates adventures feeling. Playing the game and also hearing the music sound in the background   gives the gamer a sense of as if you are untouchable and on top of the world.
I think the makers of this game where very genius and successful in inputting the music in the game.

Battlefield 4
Battlefield theme songs is so distinctive that it plays with you emotions. If you look at the game in some missions you feel so emotionally upsetting then when you hear the theme sound it completes changes you emotions it gives the gamer some type of revenge mood and listing closely to the music sound it feels like as if everything is going so fast. The creators of this game were very victorious in change the emotions of gamer and I think in my opinion this is so unique.

B. sound is important in games as it can make you feel a part of the game it can get the player zoned in like for example if a car drives back in a game it gets louder as the car gets closer and the sound fades away the further the car goes this makes the player feel as if he/she is inside of the game without sound a game will not be the same

C. wave form is a curve showing the shape of a wave at a given time.
Wave length the distance between successive crests of a wave, especially points in a sound wave or electromagnetic wave.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMYheYykNB8
Amplitude the maximum extent of a vibration or oscillation, measured from the position of equilibrium.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBx1m7opUMU
Frequency the rate at which something occurs over a particular period of time or in a given sample.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Kyb0CZkkt4
Pitch the quality of a sound governed by the rate of vibrations producing it; the degree of highness or lowness of a tone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc4DmKyCYxs
Hertz the SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J69HyXCf1GU
The decibel (dB) is used to measure sound level, but it is also widely used in electronics, signals and communication. The dB is a logarithmic way of describing a ratio. The ratio may be power, sound pressure, voltage or intensity or several other things.

d. Foley is the when everyday sounds are remade for example rain this can be remade by a recording of water most of what you hear in films is not actually what you hear they can recreate any sound even squeaky doors and breaking glass. Foley is also known as artificial sounds sounds are recreated somewhere else and imputed into a clip.

Own brief

I am going to make a 2d platform game that has some sort of maze inside of It. The genre am going to be using is sci fi with aspects of puzzle and maths to it I want my game to be mentally challenging and to push the minds of the users that play it. The artistic style I am going to be using is abstract as I am making the characters and I don’t want them to look like anything from real life.

Some of the other artistic styles aren’t compatible with 2d games for example cell shading which is used to make 3d characters look more cartoony which can be used on a 2d character but won’t look good at all. My target age range is people from the ages of 12 until 25 as these people can play video games and mostly have the mind capacity to navigate through puzzles, mazes and maths questions. Also this age range tend to enjoy sci fi related games more they also enjoy video games more and are most likely to play games on a daily basis for at least an hour. I want the puzzle part of the game to be something the player has to put together to solve a mystery i also want equations to be imputed into the game at some stage to continue. I want the game to have a reward system for example if you solve a maths problem you get a trophy or even if you pass a particularly hard level for the player to get a trophy or experience points. I also need to look into the text there is going to be in the game like the title or where it says what level you're on to be linked with the game or have some sort of sci fi aspect to it.
I Also have to look for inappropriate content as i want the pegi rating to be as low as possible to appeal to a wider variety of people so we can generate as much sales as possible if the age rating is 16 any one from the ages of 0 to 16 will not be able to play and that could be millions of possible sales.

client brief

I have to make a 2d platform game that's maze for my client. The genre for the game is sci fi with puzzle and maths parts of the game. I have to pick the artistic style and in my opinion the best artistic style for this type of game is cell shading as you can use some thing like photo realism on a 2d game. I wont be using more than 5 Mb to make the game as it doesn't require too much space as 3d games are normally larger I also have to create a 3 part story for the game.I also have to consider where i place objects or characters on the screen I want to use the rule of thirds which will make the game more aesthetically pleasing. There will not be any ethical issues with my game as all the characters are abstract which means they do not represent any thing from real life and i also cant be liable as my characters are abstract so i cant be showing anyone in a bad image.

I have to make sure my game is not too similar too any other games as there are copyright laws which means the exclusive and assignable legal right given to the originator for a fixed number of years to print, publish, perform, film or record literary, artistic, or musical material.

My target audience is teenagers especially students as they are most likely to play video games which makes them more likely to come across my game so I have to make sure they would be satisfied with the game.

Games consoles have come very far since the Atari pong until the play station 4 they had very poor memory it was only set with one game and the main reason there where a lot of sales is because it was the first arcade type game you could play at home now games consoles have a high storage capability they have blue ray disk and now there are 1533 plus games available on the ps4 even before purchasing a new game you can download a demo to see how you like it you can watch movies and shows on you're console they are also hd.
